2020 Winners

Congratulations to all our award recipients!

It is so refreshing to see the diversity in a show like this, and it’s always encouraging to see such dynamic youth works that are prescient to what is going on in the world around us in these quite challenging but exciting opportunistic times for change and movement!  I was heartened by the conceptual thinking within these visual testimonials.  Skill, imagination, design, concept, heart and risk- are all essential parts in the promise of strong effective work.  I hate giving first, second and third places etc. when I would prefer to give descriptive awards relative to the effects these works initiate and how they operate as works of art.

Art is not a race. An honorable mention is given for what is honorable or unique about it and if asked, I could tell why it owns that place for me.  I do have preferences to certain kinds of work and visual thinking and, of course, my own value criteria and aesthetics which I then rank accordingly, but the reality I have learned is that each work operates within its own sphere. Its success is how it owns that place and communicates such as evidenced by its genuine engagement in the making. It was a JOY! to view these works and what they represent, and I have seen ‘a lot’ of art work in my lifetime. It gives me hope for the world as long as work like this is being produced by professionals, cruisers, lovers, experimenters, inventors, story tellers, travelers, seekers and strategists.  All of that is represented in this show!  Keep Making!!
