Award-winning author and illustrator Yuyi Morales was born in Xalapa, Mexico in 1968. Heavily influenced by her upbringing in Mexico, her work gives poignant insight from an immigrant’s perspective; colorful, evocative stories and pictures leap from the page.

Asked about her work Yuyi says, “I strive to capture the incredible beauty of everyday forms using textures and colors as another way to reveal the heart of the story. I also pursue glow and luminosity with resolve. If I could ask for a talent, it would be to become a color genius.”

This exhibit was organized by the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature, Abilene, Texas.
