Partituren/Time Stands Still: Michael Matthews/Michael Kruscha

Partituren/Time Stands Still:

Photographs by Michael Matthews/Michael Kruscha

Berlin-based artists Michael Kruscha and Michael Matthews come from different backgrounds, work in different media, and have very different artistic experiences and perspectives. Yet they have forged a deep personal and artistic friendship evidenced by their shared interest in the malleability of photographic expression.

In Time Stands Still, German artist Michael Kruscha’s striking images of remote, un-peopled bus stops around the world seem almost abstract in the physical and visual isolation of his subjects and their peculiar relationship to the landscape.

Canadian composer Michael Matthews creates abstract, microcosmic images based on found textures and colors. Music and image are inextricably linked, and the photographic compositions in Partituren (the German term for musical parts or scores) emerge, like his musical ones, from the development of lines, shapes, densities, and colors.

This exhibition was organized and originally presented at the Art Gallery of Musical Bridges Around the World, a non-profit arts organization in San Antonio, Texas.

On exhibit in the Irving Arts Center’s Dupree Lobby Gallery March 5 – June 25, 2022.
